Jeremiah 10 and the Christmas Tree

There are those who interpret Jeremiah 10 as an injunction against using Christmas trees as we celebrate the birth of our Lord.

Verses 8 and 9 speak of "worthless wooden idols" on which workmen place hammered silver and gold, and rich apparel. When we consider that these verses condemn idolatry, we can understand what Jeremiah meant when he said "the customs of the peoples are worthless" in verse 3. No wonder he tells us not to "learn the way of the nations" in verse 2.

Jeremiah is not condemning Christmas trees. He is condemning idolatry. The trees in Jeremiah 10 are cut down to carve them into worthless idols that will later be decorated with gold and silver. Jeremiah says nothing about Christmas trees. That custom originated in northern Europe, not in ancient Judea.

Arsenokoitai

During a Facebook discussion on whether or not homosexual acts are a sin condemned by the Bible or not Eric Blanks · Friends with Christopher Lee Crowell Had this to say which invoked my longer response.

“Sorry Rexx, got to jump on in on this one. Just for reference, I'm friends with Christopher Lee Crowell. Your point on the passage that he quoted is all out of context. If you look to the original texts, the original word. arsenokoitai is used. Arsenokoitai is a combination of arsēn, “male,” and koitē, which is a word that stems from “bed,” but comes to refer to sleeping with someone or having sex with someone. It is believed by many scholars that arsenokoitai did not refer to “homosexuals” or “homosexuality,” but to male prostitutes or “concubines”. It is even more likely that it was refering to the practice of the time that adult males would pay young male protitute (which was common at the time)”

Eric I have read a lot about the debate over the meaning of 'arsenokoitai ".  It is the one who wish for homosexuality to be accepted as normal that put forth the argument you mention.  For example Theologian Mel White while agrees that the Greek word arsenokoitai, used for “homosexual” in 1Corinthians6:9, seems to refer to same-sex behavior. He argues that Greek scholars don’t know exactly what it means, however, and that this simple detail is a big part of this tragic debate.  He explains, “Some scholars believe Paul was coining a name to refer to customers of ‘the effeminate call boys.’ We might call them ‘dirty old men.’ Others translate the word as ‘sodomites,’ but never explain what that means.”  But he does not, that I could find go on the name the scholars, just like you did not.

Arseno is the Greek word for man and koite is the Greek word for bed, so it is a made-up word that roughly translates as a 'male bedder'.  How this can mean an ‘the effeminate call boys.’ Is beyond me.  

The King James Version Bible translates verse 9 and 10 as: "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine."

Arsenokoitai is the word that was that was translated to mean, “for them that defile themselves with mankind”  How with the grouped condemned, murderers, whoremongers, liars, etc., how would you translate 'male bedder'?  Some say that this is not the meaning that Paul wanted to convey, since the idea of a homosexual sexual orientation only surfaced in the 19th century after the start of the scientific study of human sexuality.  This, imo, is hogwash.  As the Greek knew that there were plenty of men who had sex with men.  The Spartans in particular always paired with their lover cohorts, and only had sex with their wives to procreate.   Until they picked their lover Spartans were paired with an older man to learn the was of war and male sex.

Clinical psychologist and theologian Stanton L. Jones admits that White effectively invokes “the mystery of arsenokoitai,” the unusual word Paul uses in 1Corinthians6:9 and 1Timothy 1:10 that is commonly translated “homosexual sin.” This, however, is not such a mystery, he argues, and its unraveling reveals a more complex picture of Paul’s use of Leviticus.

Leviticus18:22and 20:13 forbid a man lying with another man as one would with a woman. Leviticus was originally written in Hebrew, but Paul was a Greek-educated Jew writing to Gentiles in Greek, the common language of the day, and probably was using the Greek translation of the Old Testament available in that day, the Septuagint, or LXX, for his Scripture quotations.

So to claim that arsenokoitai means a male prostitute and does not condemn loving men from having sex with one another one has to believe that Paul disagreed with Leviticus18:22 and 20:13.  Not to argue from ignorance, but is there any evidence that Saul of Tarsus the Pharisee who on his way to persecute the followers of Jesus did not know the Book of Moses by heart?

Jones believes, then, that the most credible translation of what Paul is condemning in 1Corinthians6:9 is a person doing exactly what Leviticus condemns: engaging in homosexual sex (a man being a “man-lier”). Far from dismissing the relevance of Leviticus, Paul is implicitly invoking its enduring validity for our understanding of sexual sin, and drawing on it as the foundation of his teaching on homosexual conduct. He is saying, “Remember what it said not to do in Leviticus18:22and 20:13? Don’t do that!”

And for those who say that the Bible does not ay anything about women have sex with one another I would suggest that they read what Paul said in Romans 24-27, “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:   And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”

Do Not Judge

Tonight, 12/20/13, I started watching Bill O’Raley and he started talking about the Duck Density brouhaha. I only got into it as far the point where he said that Christians are prohibited from judging others by Luke 6:37. Well that was just plain Bull Shit. Number one Phil was not judging anyone, he was saying certain acts were sinful. Luke 6:37 “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:”

Many nonChristians try to beat Christians into silence with that verse, but that is not what Jesus is saying. In both Luke and Matthew the significant question is regarding  “and ye shall not be judged.” And “Judge not, that you be not judged” is judged by whom?  Are they talking about being judged by God for having judged others, but it reads as it is talking about not judging others so that they will not be judgmental of you. When Luke and Matthew have Jesus saying, “You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the mote that is in your brother’s eye.” Does it not make more sense if Jesus is talking about how people are relating with one another and not having God judge them one way or the other?

Matthew 7:12 “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” And in Luke 6:37-38 “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Again this cannot be read as a probation against calling a sin a sin when you see it. In Romans 2 Paul elaborates upon this further. Verses 1-5 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance andlongsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”

This is clearly talking about being a hypocrite, condemning others for something you do yourself. This is not what Phil did. Phil pointed out in response to a question how he regarded homosexuality. This was not passing judgement upon any individual, rather he was expressing his belief that God finds that sinful and leads to damnation.

In Luke 6:43-45, Jesus is telling us to judge, “For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” This is what Phil is doing, judging a tree by its fruit, men and women by their acts.

Jesus is not contradicting Himself, he is not telling us not to judge sinful behavior in Luke 6:37, he is telling us to treat others as we would be treated, and to behave civilly among one another.

Some Thanksgiving thoughts from Presidents Washington and Jefferson:

President Washington:

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor …

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be … that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

President Jefferson:

I consider the government of the U S. as interdicted by the Constitution from intermeddling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. This results not only from the provision that no law shall be made respecting the establishment, or free exercise, of religion, but from that also which reserves to the states the powers not delegated to the U.S. Certainly no power to prescribe any religious exercise, or to assume authority in religious discipline, has been delegated to the general government. It must then rest with the states, as far as it can be in any human authority.

But it is only proposed that I should recommend, not prescribe a day of fasting & prayer. That is, that I should indirectly assume to the U.S. an authority over religious exercises which the Constitution has directly precluded them from. It must be meant too that this recommendation is to carry some authority, and to be sanctioned by some penalty on those who disregard it; not indeed of fine and imprisonment, but of some degree of proscription perhaps in public opinion.

And does the change in the nature of the penalty make the recommendation the less a law of conduct for those to whom it is directed? I do not believe it is for the interest of religion to invite the civil magistrate to direct it’s exercises, it’s discipline, or it’s doctrines; nor of the religious societies that the general government should be invested with the power of effecting any uniformity of time or matter among them. Fasting & prayer are religious exercises. The enjoining them an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the times for these exercises, & the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and this right can never be safer than in their own hands, where the constitution has deposited it.

I am aware that the practice of my predecessors may be quoted. But I have ever believed that the example of state executives led to the assumption of that authority by the general government, without due examination, which would have discovered that what might be a right in a state government, was a violation of that right when assumed by another. Be this as it may, every one must act according to the dictates of his own reason, & mine tells me that civil powers alone have been given to the President of the U S. and no authority to direct the religious exercises of his constituents.

The Plan

The Political Class, the Councilmen, Mayors, Representatives and Senators, County, City, State, and Nation they think that they are the movers and shakers, he one who make things get done.  But they arebut the stagehands setting the stage for the real actors the people. The people who work and live their lives in anonymity to the movers and shakers.  The workers, Doctors, Plumbers, The Carpenters, Lawyers, Engineers, The Farmers, Mechanics, Labors, The Technicians, Nurses, Clerks, and on and on and on and on… The People.

The people's stories are seldom told, other than by word of mouth.

But upon this stage they play out their lives In Drama, Comedies, Farces, and yes As often as not in Tragedies. Or, as the Man said: “Full of sound and fury

Signifying nothing”, from top to bottom. The Lord has a Plan And everything is going accordingly.  The Muckedey Mucks live at the top; on the back of the Mucks’ who carry the load.  The high and the mighty, the rich and the powerful

They are all in the palm of His hand working for His plan’s fulfillment,

Willingly or not they put each piece in its place Like when the brother’s sold Joseph into slavery for their own reasons to work God’s plan.

Now come to today and do you think just because time has passed

That God has forgotten His plan? What plan is that, you ask?

Why you really do know, it started when Adam took on sin,

And worked on out to where Jesus came to put to an end

To the separation from God we have endured from our birth into sin

That has led to the death of every soul borne unto flesh.

To move us, His creature, made in His image and likeness

From the corruptible to the incorruptible, from the finite to the infinite.

In His plan’s working death came into the world by the actions

Of one man’s disobedience when Adam partook of the forbidden fruit

And came to know that he stood naked before God.

And the Son of Man’s obedience unto His death on the cross

Devouring the fruit of sin which was death when He arose from the grave.

What you say, that was a long time ago and we are still dying?

True, but the plan, remember the plan?  It is not complete until Jesus Returns,

And the adversary is locked away into the fiery pits of Hell.

A Perseptions Of Perseptions

Now take perception, for example the other night, I spent the night in a hotel in Concord after the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. When I went to bed I turned on the TV and "How I Met Your Mother" was on. I have never watched it before as it is just not the type of programming I care for, but before I switched the channel I watched a scene where this young man and young lady were sitting watching a movie. The man explained to the woman how he saw the main character in the movie, and then she explained how she saw the same character. 

The pertinent part is what the man said after the woman finished when her thoughts, "It is obvious that we are watching two entirely different movies." The point being that we all see the world through our experiences and perceptions, thus no two people can perceive anything in the same way. Because of where the young man sat as a young man he could not see the movie as the young woman did nor could the young woman see the movie as a young man would. 

Now substitute in white, black, youth, aged, or whatever you might wish in the plavce of theyoung man and young woman and you can see the problem we have when we start trying to truly understand the human condition. You tell your part, I tell my part, and together someone may understand a part that neither of us did if we tell of our understanding.

Is the Earth entering its mid-life crisis?

I just read the other day, 7/6/13,“According to leading scientist Jack O’Malley-James, life on Earth will perish in more than a billion years when a warming sun boils oceans and forces out CO2, damning plants and subsequently animals.  Most life will have died by the planet reaches 70s (or 6.5 billion-years-old), he says, with any microorganisms confined to pools of residual water.  “The far-future Earth will be very hostile to life,” Mr O’Malley-James said. “It will be restricted to pockets of liquid water, perhaps at cooler higher altitudes or in caves.”

What do you think scientist base such a belief on?  I’ll tell you, it is faith in their theories that give them the confidence, and who made the theories?  Other scientists that is who, so in effect they are basing their faith on men, well some men anyway.  In this case I reckon that it is on Hubble and Einstein.

Hubble is the one who comes up the Red Shift Theory that explained the reason, in his opinion, that some stars seem redder than others.  Einstein is the one who proclaimed that the speed of light is content never changing in a vacuum.  Now Hubble used the speed of light to calculate the size of the universe giving that it all came into existence at once by being blown apart with the Big bang.  That’s right everything blew apart from nothing, or blew in from nothing, or blew away from nothing, in any case in one instant there was nothing and in the next everything, and everything was running away from everything else giving the expanding universe.  The stare, posited Hubble, with more red in their light were accelerating away from us faster than the stars with less red it the light that is collected by our telescopes.  He based his theory on the belief that light would behave in the same manner as sound on what is called the Doppler effect.

With sound the Doppler effect is easily detected by the ear by the change in pitch as the source of the sound come to you, passes you, and recedes from you.  With light from the stars it is assumed, it cannot be proven by any experiment devisable by man, to do so would require getting a light source, not the light itself, and observe it coming towards you, pass you, and leave you as you observed the change in the frequency of the light emitted by the source.  Well yes we can get particles moving at very near the speed of light in our colliders, but the only thing that can be observed is the result of the collision of these particles into other particles, and in no way prove the existence of a Red Shift in light like one can demonstrate a Doppler effect in sound waves.  So any calculations arrived at by using the Red Shif of light had to be taken on faith.

Now I am not saying that there is no such thing as a 'Red Shift' in light when it is traveling away from an observe's, after all this is how Doppler radar, as it bounces off of an object when it come back to its source, the radar's antenna, the radio frequency of the signal has either increased or decreased depending upon whether or the object it bounced off of was going away or coming closer.  The frequency will increase, or shift towards the blue, if coming, and decrease, shift towards the red, of going away from you.    

"Hubble's law is the name for the theory in physical cosmology (proven by observation) that: all objects observed in deep space (intergalactic space) are found to have a Doppler shift observable relative velocity to Earth, and to each other; and that this Doppler-shift-measured velocity, of various galaxies receding from the Earth, is proportional to their distance from the Earth and all other interstellar bodies. In effect, the space-time volume of the observable universe is expanding and Hubble's law is the direct physical observation of this process. The motion of astronomical objects due solely to this expansion is known as the Hubble flow." Wikipedia

This is where no experiment can be devised to test the theory, there exists other explanations that can explain why we observe a red shift in the lights coming from the stars other than it is a result of them going away from us. If you heard a train whistle from a train moving towards you for the first time in your life, you might think that's how they always sound. So, when astronomers look at stars' spectrums, how do they know if it's really red (or blue) shifted? To To recognize such a shift, wouldn't one have to know what the baseline spectrum looks like? But, how could one know that?  It is assumed that the light started on its journey at a given frequency, and then because the star is moving away its light shifted to the red, i.e., the light wave got longer.  This assumption cannot be tested.

It is this reliance upon Hubble's Law that the scientist have determined the age and size of the universe.  By measurements of the cosmic background radiation (that is what, among other things, all those large radio telescope that look like large satellite antennas do) give the cooling time of the universe since the Big Bang, and measurements of the expansion rate of the universe can be used to calculate its approximate age by extrapolating backwards in time.  Now to come to the age they have concluded, 13.798 ± 0.037 billion years, they have to assume, e.g., take on faith, that the Big Bang actually happened, and there is such a thing as a Doppler effect in light coming from the stars caused by their receding from us.

So how can Jack O’Malley-James claims that the earth has reached middle age?  Well he says that the Earth is 4.54 billion-years-old, well that too is assumed as there are no dating techniques in existence that can date the earth with any precision.  What they do is look around the universe, remember in their world when you look into space you look back in time as well, if the light took a million light years to get here, determined by the Red Shift of its light, then they are looking a million years into the past.  It takes the light from the sun about 8 minuted to get to earth, so whenever you look at the sun you are looking 8 minuted into the past.  

Well they look out and see stares in different conditions, and gave them names like Red Giants, white dwarf, neutron star,  Brown Dwarf, and Nova.  Now another assumption is made and again based upon the Red Shift theory, and that these are different stages that a star goes through from birth to death. 


It is with this assumption that Mr O’Malley-James, et al., predicts the death of earth by projecting onto the sun the concept of a star that must follow the same pattern as they have stitched together by observing stars in different parts of the universe, assigning age to the stars using the Red Shift.

I also believe that the universe sprang into existence in an instance when God said, "let there be light".  But unlike O’Malley-James I believe that the earth is much nearer its end,  and it will be done away with and replace with a New Earth and a New Jerluslaham.  Both of our convictions are based upon faith his no less than mine.

The following link gives a better prestation of all the sounds, rumblings, earthquakes, sunk holes, and cars, people and houses being swallowed alive. Something is happening. What is going on. The sink holes are everywhere. And raises the question, are sink holes swallowing the world? Sinkholes and loud booms are being documented everywhere. Nobody really knows why the sink holes and earthquakes are happening.

TRUTH ABOUT THE THIRD TEMPLE

NO PLANS FOR A MILLENNIAL TEMPLE

Since my article stating that Ezekiel’s Temple was not intended to be a Temple for the Millennium but a Temple the Jews should have built when they returned from Babylon, many have asked about the temple the Antichrist will desolate in the Tribulation. The Tribulation Temple will probably be modeled after Solomon’s Temple, not Ezekiel’s Temple.

GOD GAVE NO COMMANDS FOR A THIRD TEMPLE

God gave commands for the first two temples but there is no command for a third temple. Any plans for a third temple will be the result of fallen man in rebellion against God. We are plainly told in the Book of Hebrews that animal sacrifices and temple worship have been permanently abolished because Christ’s sacrifice had accomplished what they could not.  It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.  Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.  Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’   …He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10: 4-9 NIV

According to the Book of Hebrews, anyone returning to the temple sacrifices would be crucifying Christ all over again, trampling his shed blood under foot, and insulting the Holy Spirit.

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, (returned to the Temple sacrifices) to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. 6: 4-6 ESV

He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

One of these items is the “Mizrak” which holds the blood from sacrificed animals.

The very symbol for the nation comes from the Rothschild name. In 17th century Frankfort, Germany, Mayer Amschel Bauer hung a red hexagram on his door to identify his address. So, this symbol stands for Satan, has 666 all over it, brings down evil spirits or a hex, and represents a male and a female engaging in a magical sex act; and yet I see Christians with it on their cars, in their homes, and wearing it as jewelry.

The Temple in Rev. 11 cannot be referring to any Tribulation Temple because at the very same time the Antichrist is placing his image in the Tribulation Temple resulting in its desolation we have this true Temple with no defiled Holy Place, true worshipers, and a true alter. They cannot be one and the same Temple. Rev. 11 refers to the true heavenly Temple, with its true worshippers and true alter (Jesus) that cannot be defiled.
